Gertrude Allison, 100, Salina, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003. Mrs. Allison was born Gertrude Benz on Sept. 17, 1903, at Salina. She was a homemaker and a member of Kansas Native Daughters and Elks Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the last living participant of the dedication ceremony of St. John's Lutheran's present location, walking with other parishioners from the church at Walnut and Santa Fe to the current location at Mulberry and Seventh in 1917. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Asbury Hospital Auxiliary. She was a gift shop worker and the last member of her 70-year Sunset Neighborhood bridge club Friday Afternoon Girls Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 1967; and her parents, Karl Ludwig Benz, in 1911, and the former Pauline Augusta Durst, in 1949. Survivors include three sons, Robert of Dallas and Dorman and Jerry, both of Cave Creek, Ariz.; four nephews, Kenneth and wife Janys Ryan and Guy and wife Merk Ryan, all of Salina, Dr. Merl Guthrie of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Thomas Woodward of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two nieces, Helen Kean of Abilene and Bonnie Lawrence of Santa Cruz, Calif. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Bethany Home in Lindsborg. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the mortuary. |
