Mrs. Swedlund was born Helen Virginia Knittle on Sept. 28, 1921, at Salina. She graduated from Salina High School and Kansas Wesleyan University. She was the office manager for Drs. Harvey and Harvey in Salina for many years and later worked at the Kansas Wesleyan University library. She loved cooking and homemaking. She enjoyed music and took many trips singing with the Kansas Wesleyan University Choir. Her hobby was playing the piano.

She was preceded in death by her parents, attorney Ralph Knittle and his wife, Laura, and a sister, Mildred Houchin.

Survivors include her husband, James of the home; a son, Dr. Ronald J. Swedlund of Mountain View, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina. Burial will be private in Salemsborg Lutheran Church Cemetery.
