Elton J. "E.J." Evans
August 17, 1922 - June 15, 2004

Elton J. "E.J." Evans, 81, Salina, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004.

Mr. Evans was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Salina to Ralph Waldo and Mayme (Kevan) Evans. He graduated from Salina High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army 24th Calvary Reconnaissance Troop in the South Pacific during World War II. A plaque in his honor has been placed in the Salina Veterans Memorial Park. He operated a motorcycle sales and repair shop on West State Street. He was a familiar figure at the local racetrack and often served as the flagman. He attended United Methodist Church of the Cross. He was a member of the board of governors of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432, past commander of Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Coyotes Motorcycle Club and the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Leslie and Donald.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Conn of Canton, Ga.; two sons, Ralph Evans and wife Adele of Overland Park and Lee Steven Evans and wife Anita of Canton; a sister, Helen Jane Dinwiddie and husband Joe of Loveland, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Marilu Ryser of Elizabeth, Colo.; two grandchildren, Lee Steven Jr. and Christina Marie of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Rev. Ed Thompson officiating. Military honors will be by VFW Post 1432, Salina. Cremation will follow the service. Private inurnment will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to Kenwood View Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and until the hour of the service Tuesday at the mortuary.
