PHARR, Texas -- Aloysius Anthony "Al" Naes, 80, of Pharr, Texas died Friday, March 12, 2004 at The Comfort House in McAllen, Texas. Al was born July 11, 1923 in St. Louis, MO. Al worked for the Saline County Sheriff's Dept. serving as Deputy Sheriff, Undersheriff, and Chief Juvenile Probation Officer. The last eight years he served as Sheriff of Saline County, retiring in 1985 after 22 years in law enforcement. He served his country in the U.S. Army, The U.S. Army Air Corp, and the U.S. Air Force. Al retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant on October 31, 1963 after 23 years of service. He was a member and treasurer of the Lindsborg Masonic Lodge #395, life member of the York and Scottish Rites, member of the Royal Order of Jesters, member of the ISIS Directors Staff Unit and is a Past Potentate of the ISIS Shrine. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, life member and president of the Kansas Sheriff's Association, The National Sheriff's Association, The Heartland of America Sheriff's Association, life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, The Elks Lodge #718, Air Force Sergeants Association and member of the Church of Christ, member and past chairman of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission. He was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy McKinnis Naes in 1997; a daughter, Debra Lou Naes in 1955; a sister, Patty Thompson in 2003, and by his parents George and Rose Naes. Al is survived by his wife Mary Margaret Naes of Pharr, TX; daughters Abbe Hicks and husband Carl of Salina and Darla "D.J." Chronister and husband Jerrod of Ardmore, OK; brother Fred Naes and wife Doris of St. Louis, MO; sister Kathleen Bixler of St. Louis, MO; granddaughters Courtney and Ashley Lilley of Salina; and step-grandson Jeremiah Booth Webb of Ardmore, OK. A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Masonic Temple in Salina. Military Honors will be presented by McConnell Air Force Base, Honor Guard will be presented by the Saline County Sheriff's Department and Masonic Ritual will be presented by Masonic Lodge #60. There will be no visitation. Mr. Naes' body was cremated. Memorial contributions may be given to The ISIS Children's Travel Fund in Salina or The Comfort House in McAllen, TX. |
