Clarence E. Almquist, 89, Salina, died Saturday, April 2, 2005. Mr. Almquist was born May 10, 1915 in Rural Bridgeport, KS. He worked as a famer, farming his own land in the Hallville area of Saline County for 44 years until he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sunflower Lions and the Farm Bureau. He married Elaine Myers on May 10, 1941 at Barnard, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Almquist and the former Emma Peterson and three brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Almquist of Salina; a son, Calvin B. Almquist of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Charlotte Melcher of Lexington, KY; five grandchildren, Deborah Perpetua of Vashon, WA, David Melcher and wife Francesca of Oxford, England, Daniel Melcher and wife Rachel of Chicago, IL, Jennifer Engelbrecht and husband Bruce of Philadelphia, PA, and Heather Collins and husband Michael of Houston, TX; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. 7th. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Assaria Lutheran Church Cemetery, Assaria. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Salina Presbyterian Manor. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. |
