Mr. Beggs was born Feb. 3, 1927, at Salina and was a lifetime resident. He was the owner and operator of Beggs Yamaha in Salina for more than 45 years. He also had served in the Kansas House of Representatives, having recently been sworn in for his sixth term.

He was a former mayor of Salina and city commissioner. He was a member of the Downtown Lions Club, Masonic Lodge 60, Salina Scottish Rite Consistory and a 32 degree mason and member of the ISIS Shrine, all of Salina. He was a board member for the Salvation Army in Salina and a member of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. He had served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve and graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; three sons, Larry J. and David K., both of Salina, and Daniel E. of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salina. Cremation will follow the service with private inurnment in Roselawn Memorial Park.
