Thomas J. Kennedy, 75, Salina, died Friday, January 21, 2005. Mr. Kennedy was born March 26, 1929, in Salina. He was an attorney, senior partner and president of Kennedy, Berkley, Yarnevich and Williamson Law Firm, Salina. He was a founding member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. He served on the board of directors of the YMCA and had served as chairman of the capital fund drive for the YMCA. He was a member of the Salina Airport Authority and served as chairman for one year. He served on the board of directors of the former St. John’s Hospital, Salina, and served as chairman of the board for three years. He was a member of the former Marymount College board of directors and chairman for two years. He was a member of the Salina Country Club and served on the board of directors. He was chairman of the Economic Development Committee after the closing of Schilling Air Force Base; and the Salina United Way, serving on the board of directors. He was president of Salina Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the governing body of the Smoot Foundation and chairman of the governing body of Verla Nesbitt Foundation. He was a member of the board of directors of St. John’s Military School. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Kansas Bar Association and chairman of the Taxation Section of the Kansas Bar Association. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the American Association of Attorney-CPAs and a member of the Catholic Diocesan Attorneys Association. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; four sons, Bob and wife Debbie of Mission Hills, Jim and wife Meredith of Bedford, N.H., Don and wife Traci of Wichita and Bill and wife Laura of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters, Carol Johnson and husband Ed of Minneapolis, Minn., and Katie Chalfant and husband John of Overland Park; a sister, Rosemary Boyd and husband Jack of Prairie Village; and 16 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St., Salina, with the Rev. Kerry Ninemire officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to YMCA, Salina, St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church or Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland, 7800 Foster, Overland Park 66204. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. |
