James W. Neumann, M.D., 80, Salina, died Sunday, March 6, 2005. Dr. Neumann was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Fredonia. He was a physician, specializing in neurology. He graduated from Fredonia High School, Kansas State University and University of Kansas Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served his internship at Kansas City General Hospital and was in general practice at Nevada, Mo., and Garden City. He took a residency in medicine and neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center and served as a neurologist in Kansas City, Mo., and Salina, retiring in 1997. He was licensed in Kansas and Missouri and was certified with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and was a board examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He published several medical studies, including the book “Listening to Your Own Body” in 1987. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Kansas Medical Society, Saline County Medical Society, American Academy of Neurology and the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was an avid student of tennis and golf, was a musician and loved to write. He was preceded in death by a son, David; a daughter, Paige; and a sister, Ruth Wylie. Survivors include his wife, Ann, of the home; two daughters, Ann Neumann of Phoenix and Joan Head of Overland Park; three stepsons, John Suter of Parkville, Mo., Blair Suter of Houston and Dave Suter of Olathe; two sisters, Esther Crum of Leavenworth and Mary Gilles of El Dorado; four stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Salina, the Rev. Tom Reid officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Fredonia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Tee Foundation, Salina Cares Clinic or Sunflower Adult Day Center, all of Salina. There will be no visitation. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, is handling arrangements. |
