Mrs. Allen was born Mildred Viola Getty on April 25, 1920, in Downs. She graduated from Downs High School in 1938 and the St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She married John P. Allen on May 20, 1944, in Salina. From 1943 to 1949, she was a registered nurse at St. John’s Hospital and then later specialized in obstetrics and gynecology nursing in the offices of Dr. Donald Anderson, Dr. Norman Harris, Dr. Merle Hodges and Dr. George Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Allen, in 2003.

Survivors include a son, John R. Allen and wife Amy of Salina; a daughter, Maryie Gench of Salina; a brother, Richard Getty of Lawrence; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Downs Cemetery, Downs.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

There will be no visitation.
