Dr. Raymond Savageau Freeman, 85, Salina, died Sunday, June 4, 2006. Dr. Freeman was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Denver. He graduated from The Hotchkiss School and Yale University, class of 1943. He took his medical training in Denver University and graduated from Colorado School of Medicine in 1950. He was a pediatrician in Salina from 1959 until his retirement in 1986. He served in World War II in the U. S. Marines as an anti-aircraft artillery man and in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was a member of Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church, where he was a senior warden and vestry member. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Fellowship of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Masonic Blue Lodge No. 60, Scottish Rite, Isis Shrine and Director’s Staff member. He was a staunch Republican and served as a Greeley Township trustee and was a Republican committeeman. He was a dry fly fisherman and a family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bradly Freeman and the former Gertrude Savageau. He married Babette Stiefel April 20, 1961. Survivors include his wife, Babette; five sons, William Bradly Freeman II of Des Moines, Iowa, Gary S. and wife Teresa of Oklahoma City, Raymond S. Jr. and wife Jenny of Englewood, Colo., Scott D. Freeman-Neff and wife Cassi of Leawood, and Peter A. Rich and wife Gail of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, Brian and wife Rachel Freeman, Alisha Schmidt and husband Dallas, Heather Ashton and husband Kirk Ward, Ann Flanigan and husband Dan, Laura Freeman, Ellie Freeman, Betsy Freeman, Peter Freeman, Rita Neff, Ben Freeman, Bradly Rich, Jennifer Rich andJoe Rich; and three great-grandchildren, Tovrea Freeman, Glory Schmidt and Davis Schmidt. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church, Salina, the Right Rev. James Adams Jr. and The Dean Emeritus Timothy E. Kline officiating. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium of Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to Babette S. and Raymond S. Freeman nursing scholarship at Salina Regional Health Center or the church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. |
