OVERLAND PARK -- Roland C. Geyer, 91, Overland Park, formerly of Salina, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006. Mr. Geyer was born April 12, 1915, in Shady Bend. He attended high school in Lincoln. He married Shirley Arline Tozier in 1940. He worked in agriculture-related activities in Lincoln County. In 1943, he was drafted into the Army and was sent to the European Theater. On D-Day, he was the first soldier off of his landing craft and landed on Utah Beach in France. He served under General Patton and fought in Europe until the war ended. He owned the Geyer Implement Company in Sylvan Grove for many years and semi-retired in Salina in 1980. He and his wife enjoyed playing in a dance band for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, Olga and Emil; a brother, LeRoy; and a sister, Marguerite. Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Geyer of Houston, Sherry Richardson of Euless, Texas, and Joanne Ringle of Des Moines, Iowa; a son, Richard of Shawnee; and three grandchildren, Aaron Hertzmann of Toronto, Canada, Christopher Geyer of Shawnee and Alana Geyer of Sacramento, Calif. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Beverly Cemetery, Beverly. Memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. |
