Mr. Hamel was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Council Grove, the son of Arthur Louis Hamel and the former Helene Elberta Krause. He worked for Tony’s Pizza Service for 23 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. He married Verna Beth Madden on Dec. 10, 1971, in Salina.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Schubert.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Beth, of Salina; two sons, Brian and wife Penny of Salina and Craig of Wichita; a daughter, Sandi Santiago and husband Mike of Mansfield, Texas; a stepson, Mike Madden and wife Carrie of Salina; a sister, Mary Lou Swenson of Council Grove; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, the Rev. Nancy Crowl officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
