Cecil I. Toburen

Cecil I. Toburen, 102, Salina, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006.

Mrs. Toburen was born Cecil I. Smith on Nov. 24, 1903, in El Reno, Okla. She was a homemaker and a rural schoolteacher, serving in the Federal Indian Service in Shiprock and Albuquerque, N.M., and Anadarko, Okla. She married the Rev. Leslie F. Toburen on Oct. 11, 1955, in Anadarko. They served United Methodist churches in Beloit, Wichita and Ulysses and First United Methodist Church, Salina. He died in 1994. She was a member of United Methodist Women and was a longtime Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Lindblad and husband Jim of Assaria; two sons, Gerald and wife Winona of Olathe and Les and wife Marilyn of Salina; six grandchildren, Lance, Shannon and Gretta Toburen, Doug Toburen, Debra Clark and Jenny Peterson; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Alex and Alyssa Toburen.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the church, El Reno Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
