Wilfred J. "Will" Garvert, 73, Salina, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. Mr. Garvert was born May 10, 1934, in Plainville to Adam and Susan. He owned and operated Prairie Hotel and Restaurant and Garvert Home Services, both in Plainville. He also managed the Sherwin-Williams store in Hays and was a maintenance technician for Presbyterian Manor and the United Building, both in Salina. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rosalie Martha Garvert. Survivors include his wife, Joan, of Salina; a son, Alan of Brookville; a daughter, Sonja Kaufman and husband Michael of Lawrence; two stepdaughters, Caryn Kennedy and husband Wade of Americus and Sharon Rogers and husband Bob of El Dorado; a brother, Howard of Plainville; three sisters, Evelyn Werth of Hays, Theresa Scott of Lakewood, Colo., and Madlyn Rietcheck of Olathe; three grandchildren, Mariah, Mikayla and Sophia Kaufman, all of Lawrence; five stepgrandchildren, Noelle Sliva and husband Lenny of Olathe, Nathyn Kennedy of Americus, Nick Rogers and wife Becky and Preston Rogers, all of Lawrence, and Aryn Rogers of El Dorado; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Ethan and Lucas Rogers, both of Lawrence. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plainville. A vigil will be held and a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville 67663. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society-Camp Hope, in care of Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel or Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Visitation in Salina will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation in Plainville will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel. |
