Mr. Hammond was born March 1, 1931, in Argonia, the son of Lawrence and Lula (Meridith) Hammond. He owned and operated J&L Electric for 26 years, retiring in 2000. He served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman aboard the USS Grampus submarine for three years.

Survivors include his wife, LaRene, of the home; a son, Steve Rodine and wife Mavis of Salina; two sisters, Betty Weis and husband Eddie of Salina and Pat Brown and husband Ray of Wichita; three grandchildren, Jera Huehl of Salina, Janae Rodine of Houston and Jenna Rodine of Salina; and two great-grandchildren, Jaden Ortman and Austen Huehl, both of Salina.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Rev. Paul Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until the service Friday at the mortuary.
