Mrs. Hughes was born Velma Bernice Vogan on April 28, 1925, in Manhattan. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, Danny Hughes of Salina; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A private inurnment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center.
