Mary Anna Bigler, age 85, died March 25, 2008 at the Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center, Salina, KS. Mrs. Bigler was born Mary Anna Roberts on April 13, 1922 at Tulsa, OK to Hilry Clyde and Sarah Lou (Brown) Roberts. During her early childhood, her family relocated to Glendale, CA. She graduated from Glendale-Hoover High School and was awarded and acting scholarship to Pasadena Playhouse. She elected to postpone her education and serve her country during World War II in the Women's Army Air Corps where she was a personnel clerk and performed with various canteen and USO shows. During her time at Williams Field in Arizona she met her future husband Oliver Bigler, then a young pilot in Training. They married on January 19, 1946, and upon both their discharges, made their home in California. Two daughters were born to this union. In 1957, the family relocated to Gypsum, KS, Oliver's boyhood home. Mary Anna was a member of the Gypsum United Methodist Church, was active in the V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary, and worked several years with Martin and Ade Earth Contractors. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver-1992, one son in law Dan Drummond-2005, her parents and a sister Bernice. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Drummond of Lawrence, KS and Nancy Behl and husband Chris of Corrales, NM. and two Grandsons, Scott Drummond of New York City and Colin Behl of Corrales NM. A Graveside Service will be 11:00 am Friday at the Gypsum Cemetery, Gypsum, KS. With Rev Carl Ellis officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Albuquerque Boys Choir or to Creede Repertory Theater, in care of the mortuary where her grandsons remain active participants. Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth St. Salina is in charge of arrangements. |
