Frances L. Brake, age 86, died March 14, 2008, at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. Mrs. Brake was born Frances Lillian Miller on April 12, 1921, in Salina, KS. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Blue Rapids, KS, where she was a homemaker and worked with her husband in the family business, Holiday Cleaners, for over 25 years. After their return to Salina, she was a secretary/clerk for the Salina office of Social and Rehabilitation Service for over 16 years, working in the blind services division. She was a member of the Salina Community Theater Guild, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Belmont Christian Church, Salina, where she was a member of the Women’s Christian Fellowship and served as a deaconess, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Salina, and the Salina Regional Health Center Ladies Guild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce, in 1982; an infant son, Gary; and a brother. She is survived by two sons, Larry D. Brake and wife Carol of Vancouver, WA, and Robert-Bruce Brake and partner Todd Hughes of Minneapolis, MN; a daughter, Connie S. Paul and husband Jim of Junction City, KS; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Belmont Christian Church, Salina. A private family inurnment service will be at a later date in Fairmount Cemetery, Blue Rapids, KS. There will be no visitation. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the church.
