Francis J. "Frank" Crowley, 75, of Salina died September 1, 2008 at the Kay Pogue Hospice Center after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born February 1, 1933 to Frank & Elizabeth (Stephen) Crowley in Bridgeport, Connecticut. After serving twenty years in the United States Air Force, he retired as a Master Sergeant having overseen the maintenance and safekeeping of nuclear weapons at several U.S. military bases. During his Air Force career, he was a member of the small Air Force unit that introduced intercontinental ballistic missiles to Europe. Following his Air Force retirement, he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone as a cable splicer and deskman and later worked for St. Johns Hospital as the Electrical Safety Technician and Maintenance Technician. He graduated in 1979 with an Associate’s Degree from what is now Kansas State University. Frank was a member of Belmont Boulevard Christian Church for 35 years. He was also a 43 year member of the Salina Masonic Lodge No. 60 and the Kansas York Rite, and a life member of the VFW Post 1452 of Salina. On November 23, 1955, he married Sally R. Scriven in Salina. He is survived by his wife, Sally, daughter Fran Crowley Dickey and son-in-law John Dickey of Gibsonia, PA, son Timothy Crowley and daughter-in-law Edi of Madison, CT, and four grandchildren, Adam Crowley, Claire Crowley, Thomas Dickey and Elizabeth Dickey, a brother Walter Crowley and sister-in-law Katherine of Port Charlotte, FL, and sisters, Mildred Beeman and brother-in-law Howard of Englewood, FL, Jean Cioffi of Seymour CT, Ellen Parry of North Haven, CT, and Betty Wood Goodhue and brother-in-law Art of Huntington, CT, sister-in-law, Della M. Smith of Sparks, NV, sister-in-law, Katherine Mullen of Sedalia, MO, brother-in-law Harry and Eleanor Griffin of Milford, CT, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Eleanor Crowley, Shirley Griffin and Mabel Ruge. Visitation will be from 12-8 pm, Friday, September 5th, with the family receiving friends from 6-7:30 pm at Ryan Mortuary. Cremation will follow the visitation. A Memorial service and Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 6th at Belmont Blvd Christian Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Belmont Blvd. Christian Church or Hospice of Salina. |
