Shirley Virginia Keeler, 92, Salina, died Thursday, June 26, 2008. She was born Shirley Virginia Stenfors on Nov. 16, 1915, in Garden City to John A. and Goldie E. Stenfors. She was a lifelong resident of Saline County and the Assaria community. She worked as postal clerk in Salina from 1942 to 1944. She was appointed as postmaster in Assaria in 1967, and retired in 1986. She married Melford R. Keeler on Aug. 28, 1943, in San Antonio. She was member of Assaria Lutheran Church and the National Association of Postmasters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melford, in 1964; and an infant son, George C. Keeler in 1949. Survivors include two sons, Melford Ray Keeler Jr. and wife Jeanne of Bailey, CO, and Wayne Keeler and wife Carol of Salina; a daughter, Sue Jacobson and husband Michael of Osawatomie; grandchildren, Eric Keeler and wife Shannon, Dawn Seymour and husband Danny, Aaron Keeler, Charlene Cessna and husband Bryan, Matthew Jacobson and Amanda Jacobson; and great-grandchildren, Austen and Brenna Keeler, Paige and Payton Seymour, A.J., Steven and Russell Keeler, and Zach and Sara Cessna. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, at the mortuary, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Salina, American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer’s Association. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is in charge of arrangements. |
