Lt. Col. John L. Kindlesparger
January 11, 1921 - August 16, 2008

Lt. Col. John L. Kindlesparger, 87, of Salina, died Saturday, August 16, 2008. He was born in Salina, January 11, 1921, the son of Delbert and Anna Kindlesparger. He married Maxine McLane in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1995.

John was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of 24 years from the U.S. Air Force. He was a pilot during W.W. II, serving in the Mediterranean and the European Theaters. He flew 103 missions during the Berlin Airlift. He was stationed at several air force bases throughout the United States and served as housing director for the "Waiting Wives" at Schilling A.F.B, in Salina for 13 years. He was member of the Wheat State Morgan Horse Association. He also bred and trained Morgan Horses for show on his farm near Lindsborg, KS. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean, and a sister, Doris Monty.

John is survived by two sons, Jack Kindlesparger and wife Mary, and Eric Kindlesparger and wife Kay, both of Salina; one daughter, Lynn Kindlesparger of Wilsonville, OR; sister-in-law, Ernestine Kindlesparger of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren, Scott Kindlesparger and wife Marian, Sherre Kindlesparger, Pam Berndt and husband Dennis, Darcy Olson and husband Jeff, Michelle Kindlesparger, Amy Hays, Stacy Brown and husband Tim, Sean Kindlesparger and wife Jessica, Justin Kindlesparger, and Amber Renfro and husband Clark; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; eight step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at Ryan Mortuary. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina.
