Betty K. Lambert, 90, of Salina, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. She was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Great Bend. Mrs. Lambert graduated from the University of Kansas in 1942 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Within six months of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, she went to Hawaii as a Red Cross nurse and worked in emergency hospitals. She then had a 30-year career with the Veterans Administration and was the chief of nursing service at V.A. hospitals in Alexandria, La.; Leavenworth; Dayton, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; and Muskogee, Okla. She was active in the former Saline County Humane Association, serving as treasurer for many years and taking “pet visitors” to local nursing homes. Survivors are a daughter, Karen Black and husband John, Salina; son, Dr. Paul M. Lambert and wife Donna, Boise, Idaho; granddaughter, Star Black, Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandson, Kory Lambert and wife Sarah, Chillicothe, Ohio; and great-grandson, Kooper Lambert. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at St. Mary’s Church, Salina, with Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. Inurnment will be at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina. The family suggests memorials to Salina Animal Shelter or Emergency Aid-Food Bank. |
