Vera Marguerite Melvin
October 18, 1917 - December 17, 2008

Vera Marguerite Melvin, 91, of Salina, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008. She was born the daughter of William and Ethel Whitman on Oct. 18, 1917, in St. Francis, KS. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband, Lyle, in Melvin Mobile Homes & Parts Supply. She was a horticulture judge, traveling throughout Kansas judging flower shows. In 1975, she opened Vera’s Flower Botique and operated it until the early 1980’s.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Sr., in 2003; son, Lyle Jr., in 2007; sister, Marge Venable, in 1982; and brother, Lee Whitman, in 2008.

Survivors include son, John and wife Michelle, of Salina; daughter, Nancy McAuliffe and husband Michael, of Williamsburg, VA; sister, Betty Bross and husband Dave, of Calabasas, CA; six grandchildren, Scott McAuliffe, Julie Clark, Chad Melvin, Jonas Melvin, Marcus Melvin and Matthew Melvin; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 20, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Salina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Presbyterian Manor of Salina. Visitation will be prior to the service, at Ryans, on Saturday.
