Melvin L. “Bud” Michaelsen, age 88, Salina, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Salina, Kansas. Mr. Michaelsen was born in Beggs, Oklahoma, on January 28, 1920, to J.C. Michaelsen and Ada Rife Michaelsen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bedie Absher Michaelsen; and his sister, Marcille McNally. Bud is survived by four sons: Ron and wife Donita of Salina, Kim and wife Betty of Fernley, Nevada, Jon and wife Sheri of Henderson, Nevada, and Jeff and wife Carmen of Ottawa, Kansas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Juanita Tower of Sparks, Nevada. Mr. Michaelsen took great pride in being a developer in Salina from 1947 until 1969. During this time, he built over 1,000 houses. Beatrice Street and Pearl Avenue are named for his beloved wife and mother. He was also the owner of Michaelsen Lumber Company and L & C Lumber Company. Bud was an original and active member and participant of the Salina Association of Homebuilders. After leaving Salina, Mr. Michaelsen built homes in the Reno, Nevada, area, often with his four sons. He was also proud of being a life-long Democrat. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 122 N. Eighth in Salina. The Rev. Troy Bowers will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to First United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth, Salina, is in charge of arrangements. |
