Mary Anne Powell
March 16, 1928 - April 3, 2008

Memorial services for Mary Anne K. Powell, 80, Salina will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Salina. She donated her body to science.

She died April 3, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Lawrence.

She was born March 16, 1928 in Birmingham, Michigan the daughter of Clarence W. and Edna Augusta Iutzi Kraft.

She received her B.A. degree from Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. She taught in the Salina School system; was a librarian assistant at Marymount College ; and recently retired as the Saline County Coordinator for Meals on Wheels.

She was known in the Salina community for her involvement in humanitarian, political, environmental and social causes. She was active with Salina People for Peace, The Land Institute, the Salina Food Co-op, Democratic Women, and the League of Women Voters of Salina, of which she was the current president.

She also was a member of the Salina Symphony Board of Directors, Salina Chorale, the bell choir at First Presbyterian Church, and was a volunteer reader for the Salina School System.

She married William Powell on June 28, 1954 in Birmingham, Michigan. He survives of the home.

She is also survived by her daughters, Johannah Hellen Cox, Lawrence, KS ; Laura Wiebe-Powell, Elkhart, Indiana; Emily Kiesler, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Rachel Powell Marken, Kansas City, Kansas; one brother, Dr. John W. Kraft, Nevada; one sister, Martha Claire Hug, Oregon and nine grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made in Mary Anne’s name to the charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
