| Patricia Ann “Patsy” Zimmerman |
| April 21, 1928 - November 7, 2008 |
Patricia Ann “Patsy” Zimmerman, 80, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, after suffering for several years from Alzheimer’s disease. She was born April 21, 1928, in Salina, the only child of Karl M. and Tassie M. (Patterson) Davis. She graduated from Salina High School in 1945, attended one year at Colorado Women’s College and graduated from Kansas State University (then called Kansas State Agricultural College) in 1949 with a degree in humanities and specializations in radio and English. She married John L. Zimmerman in 1950. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John L., Salina; three sons, David and wife Sharon, of Towanda, Mark and wife Dr. Carolyn Hofer, of Salina, and Jeff and wife Jane, of Edmonds, Wash.; one daughter, Ann and husband Dexter Eggers, of Salina; and 11 grandchildren. Patsy was a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and community volunteer. She also served as long-time corporate secretary and radio advertising writer for the Salina Supply Company — the plumbing, heating, air conditioning wholesaler started by her father in 1919, later run by her husband and now by her son. In 1954, she became a charter member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church and served on its committees and organizations throughout the life of the church. Her memorial there is in the lives she made better. She was a reading tutor for many years at Heusner Elementary School and won many awards in appreciation of her work there. During the 1960s and ’70s, she collected traditional folksongs and performed them, playing the autoharp for school assemblies, women’s clubs and other occasions. When her four children were in elementary school, they often performed with her. She was part of a small group of parents who chartered the Sasnak 4-H club (the name is “Kansas” spelled backwards) in the late 1960s, with most club members living in town rather that in the rural areas, an innovative concept then in 4-H. She was a member of Staccato Notes music club, PEO, Salina Chorale, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and her bridge club. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina. Memorials may be made to the church, Salina Presbyterian Manor or Hospice of Salina. |
