Richard A. Matthews, 92, Salina, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Richard was born July 9, 1917 in Tescott, Kansas to Earl V. Matthews and Neva Robbins Matthews. He was a farmer for 48 years and owner of the Matthews Grocery Store in Tescott for 15 years. Before farming at Tescott, he was employed at the Lee Flour Mill in Salina from 1939 to 1945. For many years, he was member of the Tescott Lions Club, the Tescott Saddle Club, and the Moose Lodge in Salina. He has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1993. Prior to that he was a member of the Tescott Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Erma in 2003, a son Kenny in 1965, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include two sons Richard E. and wife Melba, and Douglas, all of Salina; two daughters Carolyn J. Werhan and husband Larry and Madonna Bohn and husband Barry, all of Salina; a sister Glea Senical of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E. Neal Ave., Salina with Rev. Barry Dundas officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery, Tescott, Kansas. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Tescott United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. |
