Martin served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1965. He was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base, where he met his wife, Carolyn, of Salina. He was united in marriage to Carolyn (Marfise) Metzgar on June 10, 1964, in Salina. Martin retired from Great Plains Manufacturing of Assaria in 2007. Martin was a toolmaker in R&D; he called himself “a junk man with a piece of steel.” He could take a piece of steel and create a piece of gold.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Marfise) Metzgar; son, Daniel J. Metzgar, of Salina; and sister, Lauretta Payson, and brother, John Sincerbeaux, both of Groton, N.Y.

There will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Hospice of Salina or OCCK, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
