On Dec. 27, 1950, she married Jack Walstrom in Thayer, Neb. In 1963, they moved to Salina from Pickstown, S.D.

She was a nursing supervisor at Asbury Hospital, Salina. Later, she served as a hospice nurse for Hospice of Salina for 15 years. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis W. and Sarah Helmers; a grandson, Kevin Howell; and a son-in-law, David Garcia.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; three daughters, Claudia Howell and husband Rod, of Haysville, Jan Dean and husband Virgil, of Lawrence, and Heidi Garcia, of Lenexa; a sister, Ruth Christianson, of Milaca, Minn.; four grandsons, Scott Howell and wife Roxanne, Casey Howell, Brett Garcia and Joel Garcia; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Madison and Gavin Howell.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Salina, with the Rev. Leroy Pralle officiating. Burial will follow in Mission Hill Cemetery, Smolan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Hospice of Salina, or Presbyterian Manor.
