Bernard Andrew Walle
October 25, 1921 - April 7, 2009

Bernard Andrew Walle, 87, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Culver, son of John and Helen Walle.

Bernard served with the U.S. Army 54th Evacuation Hospital during World War II and was a longtime member of Ellis Memorial VFW Post 9139. He owned and operated City Plumbing in Ellis for over 25 years, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy E. Walle, in 1996; sisters, Florence Denison and Marjorie Andrews; and son-in-law, Don White. Survivors include a son, Dean Walle and wife Jane Yeager, of Denver; a daughter, Susan White, of Topeka; two brothers-in-law, Robert Andrews, of Salina, and Evert C. Kinzy and wife Joanne, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, B.J. and Tissie Walle, of Kamiah, Idaho, Callie and Brian Carman, of Wichita, Alison Yeager, of Denver, Megan and Scott Tajchman, of Emporia, Kara and Ryan Neill, of Topeka, and Cole Yeager, of Denver; four great-grandchildren, Aiden Martinez Walle, Cooper Carman, Breckin Carman and Liam Walle; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no viewing; cremation was chosen. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, where the family will greet visitors at 10 a.m. A second memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Ellis United Methodist Church, 12th and Washington, Ellis. Private graveside services will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis. Memorial gifts are to the church.
