Thomas D. Muhleisen was born Nov. 15, 1956, in Hastings, Neb. After a long struggle with health issues, he passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the age of 53. He was baptized into the Lord’s family on Dec. 2, 1956, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings, and renewed his baptism through the Rite of Confirmation on May 23, 1971, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, Neb. Tom graduated from Salina High School South in 1975 and was then employed with Gambles for one year. He then joined Raytheon, where he worked for 23 years, until he retired due to health issues. He worked part time at the House of Sight and Sound and volunteered his time at the Labor Building Social Club. He was actively involved in local and state politics throughout his adult years. He served as president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Labor Union and was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He enjoyed music and sports and was an avid collector of sports cards and memorabilia. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Muhleisen. He is survived by his father, Burnell “Bernie” Muhleisen, of Salina; sister and brother-in-law, Deanna Schroeder and Duane, of Topeka; nephews, Darin Schroeder and wife Michelle, and their sons Isaac, Elijah and Noah, of Burlingame, and Daric Schroeder and wife Stacie, and their daughter, Quinn, of Lawrence; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Tom was a friend to all and a true humanitarian, always giving to those less fortunate. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. The funeral services will be at 10: a.m. Saturday, March 6, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 111 W. Magnolia Rd., Salina 67401. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tom requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the church and may be left at or sent in care of the mortuary. |
