Oneta Charleen “Chan” Ostrander Donner, 73, of Salina died November 6, 2017. Chan was born on January 20, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, as the middle daughter to Charles and Oneta Ostrander. She graduated from Burdick High School, Eastern New Mexico University, Barton County Community College, and Fort Hays State University.
Chan worked in Los Angeles in the aerospace and space flight offices and in Roswell, New Mexico, in financial security offices. She worked in the administrative office for the Salina Police Department. Living in Alaska for 16 years, Chan was the human resource officer for a special education rehabilitation center in Valdez and for the State of Alaska’s Fish and Game Department in Juneau. She also taught elementary school in Eek, Alaska. Chan truly loved Alaska, her church, and her country.
Chan was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Oneta (York) Ostrander and sister, Majorie (Susan) Callahan. Surviving family members are a sister, Lanara Luthi, Salina; brother-in-law, Bill Callahan; nieces, Dena Rettinger, Nikki Rowland, Michelle Chambers, Rebecca Callahan, and Jana Obrigewitch; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and many friends in Salina and Alaska.
Chan was an active member of the Belmont Boulevard Church of the Nazarene and served as its treasurer and board member. She served as board member and president of the Twin Oaks Townhouses homeowners’ association. She was a volunteer for the local voting district.
